Along with its incredibly diverse lineup of holiday films, the Hallmark Channel is also treating us to some 80’s nostalgia this Christmas. If you’re a fan of the 80’s hit comedy Three Men and a Baby, then get ready to watch Three Wise Men and a Baby debuting Thanksgiving Weekend on Hallmark Channel.
With plenty of heart, and a somewhat similar plotline, it looks like we’re in for a story that’s as funny as it is heartwarming. The film also allows for three popular Hallmark male leads, part of a group affectionately known online as the Hallmark Hunks, to star together for the first time in one movie. Is this the start of a Hallmark Cinematic Universe? We certainly hope so!
These Three Wise Men Will Be Familiar to Hallmark Fans
Hallmark Christmas stars Paul Campbell, Tyler Hynes, and Andrew Walker star as three brothers who suddenly have to compromise and work as a team. And, as an added bonus, they’re even bringing on an actor from the 1987 movie. Margaret Colin, who played Rebecca, will appear in a currently undisclosed role.
Three brothers get the surprise of their lives when they are forced to work together to care for a baby over the holidays. As they slowly get the hang of things, they find themselves on unexpected journeys of self-discovery and begin to rebuild their relationships as brothers, as well as the damaged romantic and professional relationships in their respective lives…all while rediscovering their love of Christmas.
All three of these on-screen siblings are Hallmark Channel regulars. Campbell's first major role was as Billy Keikeya on Battlestar Galactica. He has since starred in 13 Hallmark films since 2013, the last one being this summer’s Dating the Delaneys. Hynes was a regular TV guest actor before starring in 12 of the network’s movies, including My Family Christmas Tree, An Unexpected Christmas, and Always Amore. Walker has the most experience of the three, with more than 20 movies for the popular channel. Aside from this one, he’s also set to star in this year’s Maple Valley Christmas debuting on November 5th, 2022.
The Original Three (Wise) Men and a Baby
For those who aren’t familiar, Three Men and a Baby had a very similar storyline. It starred Tom Selleck, Ted Danson, and Steve Guttenberg in the title roles, and was directed by Star Trek legend Leonard Nimoy. Funny enough, this one was also based on another movie. The original French film, Trois hommes et un couffin, had been released just two years earlier.
In this 80’s classic, Peter, Michael, and Jack are three bachelors living together when their lives are interrupted by a baby left at their doorstep. It turns out Jack had fathered a love child after having an affair at a previous acting gig. While Jack is away on a film shoot, Peter and Michael struggle to learn everything from changing diapers to proper feedings. All the while, a delivery mix-up makes them the target of two local drug dealers. Yet through all the chaos, all three find themselves growing attached to this brand-new baby girl.
Judging by its home network, it’s safe to assume Three Wise Men and a Baby will skip the drug dealer plotline, as well as the origin of the baby since one-night stands are not exactly common in a Hallmark Christmas movie. We do expect it to still be full of laughs, as well as a heartwarming message and a genuine love of the holiday season.
Three Wise Man and a Baby premieres November 19th, 2022 on The Hallmark Channel.
