Justin Long and Brittany Snow star in Christmas With The Campbells for AMC+

After months of keeping us waiting, Christmas with the Campbells has an official summary, release date and trailer. Starting December 2nd, 2022 viewers can finally stream this much-anticipated holiday comedy on AMC+. And based on the trailer, it’s the perfect holiday rom-com for those looking for something a little more raunchy than the average Hallmark Christmas movies. Of course, we’d expect nothing less from an incredibly talented cast, a writer and director straight from Hallmark, and a production team featuring a comedy main-stay and a Christmas movie icon.

A Complicated Christmas Comedy

Brittany Snow, Justin Long, and Alex Moffat play the main trio in Christmas with the Campbells. They are joined by Julia Duffy (Newhart), George Wendt (Cheers), JoAnna Garcia Swisher (Are You Afraid of the Dark?), and Erin Darling (Border Patrol).

In a case of really bad timing, Shawn dumps his girlfriend Jesse just before the holidays. Despite this, his parents still invite her to spend Christmas Day at the family home while he’s away. Not only does she accept, but while there she also takes a liking to Shawn’s handsome cousin. What follows next is lots of family drama and an unusual love triangle.

Ms. Snow is best known as Chloe Beale in the Pitch Perfect franchise and Amber in 2007’s adaptation of the Broadway musical Hairspray. Her co-star, Mr. Long, has taken on horror, comedy, and even voice acting with lead roles in Drag Me to Hell, He's Just Not That Into You, and the Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise. As for Mr. Moffat, he enjoyed six years as a cast member on Saturday Night Live! and starred in Netflix’s 2020 film Holidate.

Christmas With A Holiday Dream Team

Vince Vaughn heads up the entire production, alongside American Vandal’s Dan Lagana and Peter Billingsley — aka, Ralphie from A Christmas Story. 2022 has been a very busy — and festive —  year for Vaughn, as he’s also produced the highly-anticipated A Christmas Story sequel, as well as the holiday-set The Binge 2 for Hulu. These aren’t the first festive projects he’s worked on either, having co-starred with Reese Witherspoon in 2008’s Four Christmases.

Of course, Vaughn and Lagana still needed help giving this script that true Hallmark touch. So they teamed up with award-winning screenwriter and creator of many Lifetime and Hallmark holiday films, Barbara Kymlicka. With over 50 TV movies to her name, it’s safe to say she can bring drama, comedy, and lots of heart to any holiday story. And that comes across perfectly in films such as Lifetime’s Becoming Santa (2015) and Hallmark’s Winter Castle (2019).

Speaking of Hallmark, who better to direct a movie like this than someone like Claire Niederpruem?  Within just three short years, she’s already directed nine TV movies for Hallmark Channel. This includes seasonal favorites such as Holiday for Heroes (2019), The Christmas Bow (2020), and One December Night (2021). And we can expect her tenth network film, A Royal Corgi Christmas, on November 25th at 8pm EST.

The following NSFW trailer shows off how the film perfectly mimics the tone of dozens of Hallmark Christmas movies, but with a lot more foul-language.

If you are hoping to spend Christmas With the Campbells once you put the little ones to bed, don’t forget to check out AMC+ on December 2nd, 2022!
